whitman hanson girls soccer

The #7 seeded Whitman Hanson girls soccer team defeated #2 Dartmouth in a south sectional quarterfinal game played at foggy Dartmouth stadium. Yasemine Civan scored two quick goals to put Whitman Hanson on top 2-0 8 minutes into the game. Dartmouth responded with two first half goals of their own sending both teams into halftime knotted at 2-2. Fifteen minutes into the second half Dartmouth scored off a deflection and slip by the Whitman Hanson goalkeeper. Whitman Hanson would respond 10 minutes later, when Devon Morse beat her defender and fired a low shot under the Dartmouth keeper, sending the game into overtime where both teams had chances to end the game. Whitman Hanson goalkeeper Lauren Clark made several outstanding saves throughout the game, none bigger than those in the overtime to send the game to PKs. Whitman Hanson would score on three of their shots while Dartmouth only converted on two. Outstanding defensive efforts for Whitman Hanson were turned in by Haley Bukow, Nina Zappi, Alyssa Eaton and Nicole Galewski. Mackenzie Hatfield, Kelsey Murray, Lilly Higgins and Cassie Chernicki controlled the midfield and helped shut down the high powered offense of Dartmouth.
