Whitman Hanson Girls soccer

The Whitman Hanson Girls’ soccer team opened the season with a 1-0 win over visiting Pembroke. Whitman Hanson saw many first half chances turned aside by Pembroke goalkeeper Stephanie Everson. After a scoreless first half both teams had quality chances to take the lead but were turned away by strong defensive efforts. Nicole Galewski, Hayley Bukow, Alyssa Eaton and Nina Zappi were strong for Whitman Hanson in front of goalkeeper Lauren Clark to help her earn the first shutout of the season. With 15 minutes remaining, Yasemin Civan took a ball out of the air dribbled her defender and laid a nice pass off to Alyssa Eaton who beat the Pembroke keeper with a low shot to the left corner. Kelsey Gilbert and Lily Higgins controlled the midfield for Whitman Hanson and continued to keep the pressure on the Pembroke defenders.
