The Whitman Hanson girls’ soccer team defeated Notre Dame Academy 2-1 in the first round of the south sectional tournament. Notre Dame went ahead midway through the first half when they converted off a corner kick. Despite pressure, WH was not able to create many scoring chances in the first half. WH came out in the second half and began applying pressure and found the back of the net when Alexis Fruzzetti followed up on a rebound from a Kelsey Gilbert shot. Yasemin Civan put WH up 2-1 when she took an Alyssa Eaton pass and fired a left footed shot in to the back of the net. The defense of Hayley Bukow, Nina Zappi, Nicole Galewski and Alyssa Eaton kept Notre Dame from getting any significant chances. Goal keeper Lauren Cark made 7 saves, two of them outstanding to preserve the win.
