Patriot League girls soccer

The Whitman Hanson girls’ soccer team improved to 3-0 with a 3-1 home victory over league rival Hingham. Hingham opened the scoring when Kira Maguire fired a 25yd blast into the upper corner. From there both teams traded possession without any great scoring chances on either side. With 4 minutes remaining in the half, Lauren Bonavita received a ball off a great run by Sammy Smith and drilled it into the back of the net to tie the score. 22 seconds later Bonavita received a combination pass from Freshman Madeline Nagle and blasted a 30yd shot in to the upper corner to help Whitman Hanson take a 2-1 lead. Two minutes following Bonavita’s second goal, Eve Montgomery tracked down a Bonavita through ball and deflected it in to the net to put Whitman Hanson up 3-1 entering the half. The second half saw strong defensive play by the Panther led by Sammy Smith who dominated the game from her defensive position. Sam Perkins, Olivia Johnson, Betty Blake and Alexis Billings all turned in great performances. Keeper Skylar Kuzmich made 8 saves in goal for the win.
