The Whitman Hanson girls’ soccer team opened the season with a 5-1 non-league victory over Weymouth. Despite some early pressure the Panthers were unable to find the back of the net until Jenna Lindstrom entered the match and her presence was immediately felt. Lindstrom fired home a rebound from 6 yards out and minutes later beat a Weymouth defender and the keeper to a ball and slotted it home for her second in the first half. Starting the 2nd half up 2-0 the Panthers continued to apply the offensive pressure and Kayla Cassidy found the net twice in the half followed by a goal by Olivia Borgen. The midfield work of Ava Melia and Lauryn Fostello was outstanding while the defense of Megan Bizier, Skylar Jordan, Makenna Marshall and Emily Leitch was solid all evening. Freshman keeper Ava Patete made 6 saves in the WH goal for her first Varsity win. The Panthers play next on Thursday when they host Quincy.
