The Whitman Hanson girls soccer team defeated Silver Lake 4-0 in the first round of the MIAA south sectional tournament. The Panthers opened the scoring midway through the first half when Alexis Fruzzetti headed home a Lauren Bonavita corner kick. The Whitman Hanson defense battled the wind and kept Silver Lake from any great chances in the first half. Up 1-0 at the half the Panthers came out and immediately applied pressure and Bonavita took a bouncing ball and fired it into the upper corner. Minutes later Rachel Kelly pounced on a loose ball in front of the goal and slipped it under the goalkeeper to make it 3-0. Goalkeepr Skylar Kuzmich came up huge when she made a great diving save off a Silver Lake penalty shot. Bonavita scored her second goal of the night when she took a Rachel Kelly cross and headed a laser past the Silver Lake goalkeeper. Lindsay Anderson, Maddie Shea, Kelsey Gilbert, Sammi Smith and Elana Wood all played outstanding defense for the Panthers as they recorded their 15th shutout along with goalkeepers Skylar Kuzmich and Mikayla Clemens.
