Whitman Hanson girls' soccer

The Whitman Hanson girls’ soccer team used a balanced scoring attack and strong defending to defeat Braintree 4-0 in the first round of the South Sectional Tournament. The Panthers got on the board with 8 minutes to go in the first half when Alexis Billings took an Ava Melia pass and blasted as 25yd shot into the upper corner. With just seconds remaining in the first half, Olivia Borgen’s slotted ball found the foot of striker Riley Bina who slotted it into the far post. The Panther defense of Sam Perkins, Ava Melia, Courtney Woodward and Erin Wood kept the Braintree offense in check and with 8 minutes remaining Nora Manning followed up an Olivia Borgen shot that hit the crossbar to make it 3-0. Borgen then found the back of the net when she finished off a corner from Alexis Billings. Keepers Kylee Colclough and Reese Codero shared the duties in goal and combined for 6 saves to earn the shutout.
